The pediatric emergency department at St. Luke’s Hospital sees patients from the newborn period up until the 22nd birthday. We see approximately 25,000 patients a year, with problems that span the spectrum of pediatric illness.

The pediatric ED is staffed at all times by an attending who is board certified in both pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine or pediatric intensive care. There is double attending coverage for at least ten hours a day, and triple coverage during the busiest time of year.

Emergency medicine residents get experience with a variety of pediatric problems and procedures. In addition to the time spent in our own ED, each resident has a one month pediatric elective in the second year, which can be taken off site to allow a more varied experience.
