St Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital Center is a leading member of the Continuum family and is academically affiliated with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai. Our Hospitals are located on two campuses on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. We serve patients from Greenwich Village and Midtown, the Theater District, Morningside Heights and Harlem. The two campuses are 3 miles apart and students spend their time equally at both sites. St. Luke’s and Roosevelt Hospitals have been steadily caring for patients, serving the community, fostering medical research and innovation, and training new doctors in nearly every specialty since they first opened their doors in 1858 and 1871 respectively. Excellent, patient-centered medical care provided with compassion and respect, regardless of ability to pay, have always been central to the mission and remain so today. The emergency departments at SLR are busy with a combined census of 185,000 patient visits/year including 29,000 pediatric patient visits to St. Luke’s and 7000 pediatric visits to Roosevelt.

Residency: The EM residency at SLR is an ACGME fully accredited PGY 1-2-3 program with 42 EM residents and 40 full time faculty. Our training philosophy centers on a balanced and healthy approach to training which emphasizes resident well-being. Our residents and faculty are unusually happy, energetic and engaged.

St. Luke’s: St. Luke’s is a level 1 Trauma Center and NYC Stroke Center, located on 113th St. and Amsterdam Ave, adjacent to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and Columbia University. Our dedicated pediatric emergency department is located here, so students will not see pediatrics here unless unique arrangements are made.

Roosevelt: Roosevelt is situated in midtown west, between Columbus Circle and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. It contains a recently renovated emergency department which is a level II trauma center. Roosevelt houses all of the hospitals obstetric care, and offers an exciting mix of patients from all over the world.

Mt. Sinai Affiliation: St Luke’s – Roosevelt has an academic affiliation with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai. Visiting students interested in the rotation must apply through Mt. Sinai.
